It was our privilege to be able to minister to the church meeting in the home of the Goerickes, Carl Jr. and his wife Loretta, in Taylor, Texas. We reminisced about many years of ministry. Carl and Loretta had attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, and had many fond memories of sitting under my Dad’s teaching at University Assembly of God. Our daughter Ruthie served as a work-study under Loretta many years ago. Cyndie shared in the service about how prayer is the key and has been the greatest factor in the growth of our church in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. We found out that the greater part of the historical population of Taylor is Czech and there are many similarities with the traditional Roman Catholic Spaniard whose “religion” is basically no more than a socio-cultural & historical identity. We need to avoid unnecessary cultural barriers and focus on the essentials of the Gospel – the commonalities we share in the nucleus of the Good News and not the peripheral minutiae of traditions and wording which too often hinder access to the life-changing power of the Gospel. Most of all we need to share the Good News in the power of the Holy Spirit with signs & wonders giving testimony to the veracity of the Message. We ended the evening praying for the sick and a time of refreshing at Whataburger. Thank you Goerickes for your hospitality. We trust that we will become your first missionaries to support as we share the Good News, Reaching, Teaching & Training in Spain.
