I can only think in terms of superlatives when I remember the service with pastors Jehu and Lillian Hernández and the congregation at Solid Rock Assembly of God, San Angelo, Texas. There was a most wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit from the very beginning. Solid Rock is not a large church but it is truly dynamic – “on fire”! Cyndie and I were very impressed and greatly blessed by the presence of the Lord and the incredible music. Not only was the music itself and the musicians/worship team of the highest quality, but the selection of songs (both English & Spanish) and the words of the songs chosen were very deep, theologically correct, and wonderfully edifying. The worship was Christ-centered and Pentecostal – worshiping in tongues and with understanding. I was given freedom in the time of sharing the Word and we all felt that the Holy Spirit was speaking to us and moving us to greater heights of dedication to reach the lost and expand the Kingdom of Heaven. There was no need for urging as Pastor Jehu invited people to the altar as everyone surged forward for a time of ministry – praying for the sick, presenting ourselves once again to the Lord for His service, and various needs of God’s people. This was the third service I had preached that day and yet I was refreshed in God’s wonderful presence. The pastor’s mother was present and showed me a picture of me and my Dad with her in a Latin District Council. She remembered Dad in Mexico City on his way back to Cuba! What a precious warrior for God and still going strong. After church we fellowshipped with the pastors and some of their family. I must say that we thoroughly enjoyed the company and conversation with our new friends and (by faith) new partners in missions ministry. When we opened the envelope with the offering for our ministry, we were blown away! WOW! The largest offering which we have received yet for a missionary service on this itinerary. But you know, if there had not even been an exceptional offering that evening, Cyndie and I still felt that we were wonderfully blessed, uplifted and edified. Thanks as well for the comfortable hotel suite where the church put us up overnight. Just wish we could spend more time with our new friends, but we will be together at the West Texas and Plains District Council in Lubbock, Texas in June!
