Presbyter Joe Tovar is the pastor who set up our small itinerary in Ponca City and Altus, Oklahoma, and across the border in Vernon, Texas. Altus is a city of around 20,000 population and home of a U.S. Air Force base which trains pilots. Pastor Tovar provided a very comfortable hotel room for us where we could rest and refresh after our trip down from Ponca City and Enid. Templo Sinaí A/D is adopting us as one of their new missionaries and so the pastor had us minister on August 12th in the Sunday morning in the service so that we could come to know (and be known) be more of his congregation. There were many visitors in church and a wonderful spirit of worship. Pastor Tovar is accomplished on the guitar and his wife handled everything from the keyboard to the PowerPoint. After ministering the Word and sharing our heart we all went next door to the all-purpose kitchen and fellowship hall where we dined and chatted over some wonderful home-made tortillas, carne asada, potaje, beans & rice and hot sauce (for those who wanted it). 🙂 Soon they will be laying the foundation for a new church building on a property that they have acquired. There are as many as 50 new Hispanic families who have moved into town recently and the pastor’s desire is to reach as many of these as possible for the Lord. They need a new building as their present facilities are packing out. We will be praying with them toward that end! The church is a very missions-minded church in their prayers and in their giving. We welcome pastor Joe Tovar and Templo Sinaí as our new partners in mission.
