We were traveling from the far southwestern corner of Oklahoma across the border to Vernon, Texas. The GPS in the car said, “Do you want to avoid dirt roads?” Yes, I didn’t want to travel on dirt roads. It answered, “Your destination is on a dirt road!” So we really didn’t know what to expect driving up to Templo Ebenezer in Vernon on Sunday August 12th. What we found was a truly lovely, large, modern, well-decorated church building with a lovely congregation. Pastor & Mrs. Fabricio Reyna have been in the church for 2 yrs. Fabricio had advised us that they had just taken on a new missionary for support but we were willing to be a blessing and reinforce the base for their missions program, emphasizing the Person & Power of the Holy Spirit. Cyndie & I had a joyous time as we worshipped the Lord with many of the songs which we sing in our church in Alcalá mixed with some of the old-time choruses which we sang many years ago. “Hay vida, hay vida en Jesús!” After I preached from the Word (bilingually) and gave testimony to the signs & wonders that we have witnessed overseas, there was a prolonged time of prayer around the altars which was really blessed as we prayed for the men and women and young people. Afterward, for a second altar call the pastor’s wife sensed the presence of the Lord in a powerful way and called those who felt their lives dedicated to full-time service to the Lord in one capacity or another so that we could pray for them. Later came a time of greeting and some personal counseling and then fellowshipping with the pastors over food at a cosy little restaurant where we talked till closing time. Thank you Pastor Reyna and congregation for your love, your prayers and your generosity. We trust that we will soon be added on as one of your missionaries which you support. Keep up the good work!
Templo Sinaí A/G, Altus, OK
Presbyter Joe Tovar is the pastor who set up our small itinerary in Ponca City and Altus, Oklahoma, and across the border in Vernon, Texas. Altus is a city of around 20,000 population and home of a U.S. Air Force base which trains pilots. Pastor Tovar provided a very comfortable hotel room for us where we could rest and refresh after our trip down from Ponca City and Enid. Templo Sinaí A/D is adopting us as one of their new missionaries and so the pastor had us minister on August 12th in the Sunday morning in the service so that we could come to know (and be known) be more of his congregation. There were many visitors in church and a wonderful spirit of worship. Pastor Tovar is accomplished on the guitar and his wife handled everything from the keyboard to the PowerPoint. After ministering the Word and sharing our heart we all went next door to the all-purpose kitchen and fellowship hall where we dined and chatted over some wonderful home-made tortillas, carne asada, potaje, beans & rice and hot sauce (for those who wanted it). 🙂 Soon they will be laying the foundation for a new church building on a property that they have acquired. There are as many as 50 new Hispanic families who have moved into town recently and the pastor’s desire is to reach as many of these as possible for the Lord. They need a new building as their present facilities are packing out. We will be praying with them toward that end! The church is a very missions-minded church in their prayers and in their giving. We welcome pastor Joe Tovar and Templo Sinaí as our new partners in mission.
Fuente de Agua Viva Ponca City
We were on the road for 7 hours to arrive in Ponca City, Oklahoma, for a Friday night service @ Fuente de Agua Viva A/D Pastors María & David Borrego. The church had supported us for several years as their only missionary, subsequently making a rather large monthly commitment supporting our ministry. That was 5 years ago and Rev. María pastored the church. Since then she has married Rev. David Borrego who not only is a minister but also a very fine worship leader, guitarist & drummer. The church is very missions-minded and have a vision of establishing churches throughout northern Oklahoma. We are praying with them as the Lord is leading them and providing (by faith) a newer and larger church building in a more strategic part of town, a facility which will provide them with much needed Sunday School classrooms as well. Their youth group is led by Ana and they are dedicated and enthusiastic. After our missionary service Friday evening they set up tables and everyone enjoyed food & fellowship with some freshly home-made Mexican food cooked in their own kitchen. We welcome Pastor María and the congragation back with their renewed partnership in missions to reach, teach & train disciples on the harvest field, re-doubling our efforts in the light of the soon Coming of Jesus Christ. Thank you Fuente de Agua Viva church. Your are doing more to reach the lost than many churches with more buildings and finances. May God give you many souls in Oklahoma for the Kingdom’s sake!
Missions in Merkel
It was truly a joy on Sunday, August 5th, to fellowship and renew acquaintances with our wonderful friends Joe & Kathy Bushnell in Tye, Texas, pastors of Abundant Life A/G in Merkel. Their church has supported our missions ministry very faithfully for many years. Due to a calendar change (we really feel that it was a “God appointment”) we were able to minister in both the a.m. and p.m. services. The Bushnells, always hospitable and hard-working, received Cyndie & me as guests in their home. It was indeed a wonderful time of relaxing and sharing. They share our heart for missions and are true prayer warriors! They have a wonderful church facility right on the Interstate 20 access road west of Abilene, Texas. God has been blessing this year in extraordinary ways in their church and congregation. If you have a chance or are anywhere near, drop in and visit them. You will be blessed. Thank you Joe and Kathy for all you have done for us, and forgive the old “classic photo” lifted from a picture in your home. Couldn’t resist 🙂
Graduation Global University/ICI students in Madrid
How marvelous to see what the Lord is doing through the ministry of Global/ICI in Spain. In the photo there is a group of graduates in the Iglesia de Vida in Madrid, pastored by Osvaldo Ruben Zapata. He says: “It is the only theological university recognized by the Spanish government.” From Madrid Global/ICI also ministers to groups of students in various countries of Europe, from England to Holland, from Sweden to Italy. I myself have taught the ICI course on Eschatology to a fine group of Spanish-speaking students in Milan, Italy. Continue to pray for this precious ministry which Andoni Muro and his wife Bea are directing.
